About Pocket Hole Screws
ALL COMMON POCKET HOLE SCREWS WILL WORK WITH ANY COMMON POCKET HOLE JIG.
If you already own another brand of pocket hole screws, they will work with any pocket hole jig. The common pocket hole drill bit is 3/8" and has the step down bit feature for the pocket hole screw.
1" to 1 1/4"
If you are using 5/8" thick lumber you will use 1" pocket screws. If you are using 3/4" thick lumber, you would select 1 1/4" pocket screws.
1 1/2"
If you are using lumber from 7/8" through 1 1/8" thick you would choose 1 1/2" pocket screws.
2"
If you use 1 1/4" through 1 3/8" lumber you would use 2" pocket screws.
2 1/2"
If you are using lumber that is 1 1/2" thick (common construction grade 2x material) you would use 2 1/2" pocket screws. I also use these 2 1/2" screws on 4x4 materials using the same jig settings as you would for 1 1/2" materials.
Pocket Hole Tip
STOP COLLAR SETTING
Set your stop collar about 1/8" further toward the bottom of the bit than is recommended to ensure that your pocket screws don't break through the wood when you drive them. This makes your pocket hole slightly shallower than most jigs recommend which I find works great.
